Ian McMillan talks poetry

June 27th

7.30pm

Nether Stowey Church Centre

Renowned poet Ian McMillan, whose other hats include journalist, playwright and broadcaster, will be coming to give a talk in Nether Stowey, home to Coleridge Cottage, as part of the Writing Places project in June.

As a broadcaster Ian can be heard regularly on Radio 4 on shows including The Today Programme, Just A Minute, You and Yours and The Culture Show and he is also the weekly host of Radio 3’s The Verb.

As one of the UK’s best known contemporary poets, Ian is the author of both adult and children’s books and is also the poet-in-residence for The Academy of Urbanism and Barnsley FC. He’s been resident poet at English National Opera and UK Trade & Investment Poet, Yorkshire TV’s Investigative Poet and Humberside Police’s Beat Poet.

As 2016 finds itself the 200th anniversary of the first publication of Coleridge’s ‘Kubla Khan’, Ian will be musing on his life as a published poet and his relationship with Coleridge the Poet.

‘As a poet, I’ve always wanted to emulate Coleridge; his quest for imaginative freedom, his knowledge of past cultures, his determination to live the poetic life, and I hope I’ll be able to reflect a little of that in my talk.’ Ian McMillan

Ian’s talk will be taking place on June 27th at 7.30pm at The Church Centre in Nether Stowey. Tickets cost £3 and are available by ringing Coleridge Cottage on 01278 732662
