During Jane’s stay at A la Ronde she will be at the property for two days each week. Part of that time, she will be working on writing about A la Ronde and also have time to meet visitors. She will also be holding 4 free workshops during her three month residency (admission charges apply):
15 July – 11am – 1pm – ‘Resonant objects’ – Maximum 15 spaces so booking essential
Using objects and furniture from around the house, Jane Feaver will lead a writing workshop that will explore the distinct lives of ‘things’ and the unique relationships we form with them.
10 August – 11.30am – 12.30pm and 2pm – 3pm – ‘Bee narrative’ – drop-in
The Parminters actively encouraged bees in their gardens. It is tempting to make the comparison between the activities of the busy, pollen-collecting bees and the two cousins on their travels and in the hive of domestic activity that was their home. We will use a bee’s eye view to think about travel and collecting and stories in the garden (weather permitting!)…
17 August – 11am – 1pm and 2pm to 3pm – ‘Camera obscura’ – drop-in
We know that Mary Parminter owned a camera obscura, the precursor of the photographic camera, used to help make landscape drawings. With a modern-day equivalent, we will experiment with ways of looking at the landscape of A La Ronde. What does this do to our view of the world? How might we translate this view into writing?
23 September – 11am – 1pm – ‘Feathers and shells’ – Maximum 15 spaces so booking essential
Drawing inspiration from the Parminter’s fascination with feather and shell-work, Jane Feaver will lead a writing workshop that will explore the properties and metaphoric possibilities of feathers and shells.
